We are looking for two musicians/sound artists, who enjoy experimenting in a multichannel environment and are familiar with spatial audio technology. We would like to see different approaches for both residencies, ideally as part of the residency projects:
- Residency: from MON, 15 June – FRI, 26 June 2026
>> preference will be given to applicants who work with ambisonics impulse responses and seek to either advance techniques or work on standardizing and archiving issues. We can provide recording equipment (measuring speakers, ambisonics microphones). - Residency: from MON, 14 September – FRI, 25 September 2026
>> preference will be given to applicants who will work on a live performance, which can (and should) be presented as part of the OTTOsonics festival 2026 (25-27 of September)

Location & technical environment
The residency takes place at Alter Bauhof Ottensheim in Upper Austria, which is currently under reconstruction (www.alterbauhof.at). From April 2026 we can offer more photos and details of the new available spaces.
The main concert hall measures 10m x 12.6m and 6m hight. You will have access to a mixing console (A&H SQ6), microphones (hydrophone, Zylia, Rode NT-SF, standard studio and live mics), recording devices (sounddevices MixPre6) and various USB interfaces.
The OTTOsonics system is a modular array of custom-built 4-inch loudspeakers complemented by subwoofers, fully adaptable to a wide range of three-dimensional spatialization layouts. Following our renovation, the system will most likely be configured as a 45-channel ambisonic dome with line arrays at 0° elevation, six 18″ subwoofers, and a stereo PA. Speaker positions will be provided either as a JSON file or as a simple text document.

our residency philosophy
Our residencies offer both dedicated creative space and full access to the OTTOsonics speaker system. Each residency period is framed by a thematic focus or research topic that we believe holds potential for artistic or experimental development. We encourage participating artists and researchers to explore innovative methods across the entire process from conceptualisation and production to implementation and presentation.
