The building – a former garage for boats of the local fire department – has been adapted and used as a venue for concerts and theatre since 2020, and it has undergone a complete renovation in 2025. The OTTO Kulturgenossenschaft runs and develops Alter Bauhof as a participatory project (www.otto-kulturgenossenschaft.at) together with other local initiatives, whereas the municipality of Ottensheim is providing the building.
Alongside the main hall with stage and bar, there is a lobby with a permanent exhibition area, and a large backstage equipped with a kitchen, 4 sleeping cabins and artist bathroom. Outside from the backyard there’s access to another small studio and a public restroom.
