„In C“ (1964) von Terry Riley ist ein bahnbrechendes Meisterwerk und gilt als das erste große Stück der Minimal Music. Es handelt sich um ein offenes Konzeptstück für eine beliebige Anzahl und Art von Instrumenten, das auf 53 kurzen, repetitiven Melodiebausteinen basiert. Anstatt einer klassischen Partitur besteht das Werk aus einer einzigen Seite mit 53 durchnummerierten musikalischen Phrasen. Die Blasmusik Ottensheim wird zur Eröffnung des Festivals dieses ikonische Werk auf ihre eigene Weise interpretieren. Über die Ambisonics-Anlage wird die Aufführung als räumliches Klangerlebnis hörbar: Klänge bewegen sich durch den Raum, überlagern sich und eröffnen neue Perspektiven auf einen Klassiker der experimentellen Musik.

“In C” (1964) by Terry Riley is a groundbreaking masterpiece and is widely regarded as the first major work of Minimal Music. It is an open-form composition for any number and type of instruments, based on 53 short, repetitive melodic patterns. Rather than a conventional score, the piece consists of a single page containing 53 numbered musical phrases. To open the festival, the Blasmusik Ottensheim will present its own interpretation of this iconic work. Through the Ambisonics system, the performance becomes an immersive spatial listening experience: sounds move through the space, overlap, and open up new perspectives on a landmark of experimental music.

Lignes de niveaux – das aktuellste Soloprojekt des in Leipzig lebenden französischen Saxophonisten Sébastien Branche – verbindet statische und dynamische Elemente zu abstrakten Klanglandschaften, die sich langsam entfalten und dazu einladen, sie in aller Ruhe zu erkunden:
Lange Töne, Multiphonics und Atemgeräusche werden mithilfe verschiedener Objekte und Spieltechniken moduliert. Hinzu kommen Elektronik, Sampling, Bewegung sowie räumliche Modulationen, die diese Klänge vervielfachen und erweitern.

Das Projekt wurde mit Unterstützung von Musikfonds und GLV im Rahmen des Programms „Neustart Kultur“ entwickelt und im Juli 2021 im ZiMMT uraufgeführt.

Lignes de niveaux —the latest solo project by Leipzig-based French saxophonist Sébastien Branche— combines static and dynamic elements into abstract soundscapes that unfold slowly and invite listeners to explore them at their own pace: long notes, multiphonics, and breathing sounds are modulated using various objects and playing techniques. Added to this are electronics, sampling, movement, and spatial modulations that multiply and expand these sounds.

The project was developed with support from Musikfonds and GLV as part of the “Neustart Kultur” program and premiered at ZiMMT in July 2021.

Die in Salzburg lebende DJ Rova engagiert sich seit vielen Jahren kontinuierlich für die lokale elektronische Musikszene. Von 2016 bis 2022 war sie Mitbetreiberin des Plattenladens Minerva Records, der sich als wichtiger Treffpunkt für Musikinteressierte etablierte und dessen Name bis heute für Qualität in der Musik- und DJ-Kultur steht.

Rovas DJ-Sets zeichnen sich durch energetische Tunes und eine bedachte, gefühlvolle Selektion aus, während sie dabei stets darauf abzielt, Genregrenzen aufzubrechen und neue musikalische Perspektiven zu eröffnen.

Based in Salzburg, DJ Rova has been continuously involved in and committed to the local electronic music scene for many years. From 2016 to 2022, she co-ran the record store Minerva Records, which became an important meeting place for music enthusiasts and whose name continues to stand for quality in music and DJ culture, including through its regular events at the Jazzit Music Club.

Rova’s DJ sets are characterized by energetic tunes and a thoughtful, intuitive selection of tracks. Constantly seeking to break down genre boundaries, she aims to open up new musical perspectives and create engaging, dynamic listening experiences.

Eine praxisorientierte Einführung in Ambisonics

Dieser Workshop lädt die Teilnehmer*innen dazu ein, die Grundlagen von Ambisonics durch Zuhören, Spielen und Experimentieren zu entdecken. Die Teilnehmer erleben räumlichen Klang als ausdrucksstarken musikalischen Parameter und entdecken, wie dreidimensionale Klangumgebungen durch Bewegung, Gestik und Interaktion gestaltet werden können. Vorkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich, lediglich Neugier und Experimentierfreude.

Participants will experience spatial sound as an expressive musical parameter and discover how three-dimensional sonic environments can be shaped through movement, gesture, and interaction. Musik, jenseits des Klangs

Bevor er hörbar wird, ist Klang eine Schwingung – eine Welle, die über die Haut, den Brustkorb und die Knochen spürbar ist. Was geschieht, wenn eine Komposition nicht die Ohren, sondern den Körper anspricht?

Sub_Bar ist ein Musikformat, das auf tiefen Frequenzen, Subwoofern und Luftdruckveränderungen im Körper basiert. Entstanden aus einer einfachen Frage – Wie macht man Musik für Gehörlose? – wurde es zu einer Einladung an gehörlose und hörende Menschen, denselben Klangraum durch körperliche Wahrnehmung gemeinsam zu erleben.

Sub_Bar wurde von Francesco Spaggiari (Atelier Francesco) konzipiert und ist bereits in über 40 Städten weltweit aufgetreten, wurde für die VUT Indie Awards 2025 (Deutscher Musikkritikerpreis) und den EIB Institute Social Innovation Award 2022 nominiert – und wird nun in Ottensheim zu Gast sein.

Music, beyond sound

Before it becomes audible, sound is a vibration – a wave felt through the skin, the chest, and the bones. What happens when a composition speaks not to the ears but to the body?

Sub_Bar is a music format based on low frequencies, subwoofers, and changes in air pressure within the body. Born from a simple question – How do you make music for the deaf? – it became an invitation for both deaf and hearing communities to share the same sound space through physical perception.

Conceived by Francesco Spaggiari (Atelier Francesco), Sub_Bar has performed in over 40 cities worldwide, was nominated for the VUT Indie Awards 2025 (German Music Critics‘ Award) and the EIB Institute Social Innovation Award 2022 – and will now be making a guest appearance in Ottensheim.

Die Künstlerin schwebt zwischen Komposition, Bildender Kunst und Performance. Sie instrumentiert und improvisiert, schneidet und schichtet, schiebt und lauscht und entwickelt ihre Werke intermedial. Mit Augenohren zu hören, mit Ohrenaugen zu sehen, kann in ihren Arbeiten erfahrbar werden. In wechselnder Reihenfolge wird Akustisches, Visuelles und Körperliches zu einer gemeinsamen Bewegung dramaturgisch in den Raum überführt.

JUUN (AT) plays piano guts.

The artist moves fluidly between composition, visual art, and performance. She orchestrates and improvises, cuts and layers, shifts and listens, developing her works across media. Her pieces allow viewers to experience what it means to “hear with one’s eyes” and “see with one’s ears.” In varying sequences, acoustic, visual, and physical elements are dramaturgically woven into a unified movement within the space.

Die aus Mexiko stammende und in Seattle lebende Künstlerin Natalia Quintanilla Cabrera präsentiert ihr aktuellstes Stück, das sie während ihrer Residency in Ottensheim finalisiert hat.

„Electrocumbia Night: An Homage to Mexican Sonidero“ ist eine immersive Raumklang-Performance zu Ehren der mexikanischen Sonideros: DJs aus der Nachbarschaft und Soundsystem-Kollektive, deren von Cumbia geprägte Zusammenkünfte das kulturelle Leben in ganz Mexiko und seiner Diaspora geprägt haben. Durch die Verschmelzung von Feldaufnahmen aus Mexiko-Stadt, historischen Sonidero-Stimmen, räumlich verteilten Klängen und elektroakustischen Kompositionstechniken entfaltet sich das Werk als vierteilige Reise durch Stadtviertel, über Tanzflächen und durch imaginäre Klanglandschaften. Das Stück interpretiert immersives Audio neu als gemeinschaftliches und körperliches Erlebnis und verbindet zeitgenössische Praktiken des räumlichen Klangs und der Akusmatik mit dem partizipativen Geist der Sonidero-Kultur und ihren Traditionen des gemeinsamen Zuhörens, Tanzens und sozialen Austauschs.

Natalia Quintanilla Cabrera, originally from Mexico and living in Seattle, presents her latest work, which she completed during her residency in Ottensheim.

Electrocumbia Night: An Homage to Mexican Sonidero is an immersive spatial-audio performance celebrating Mexican sonideros: community DJs and sound-system collectives whose cumbia-driven gatherings have shaped cultural life across Mexico and its diaspora. Blending field recordings from Mexico City, archival sonidero voices, spatialized sound, and electroacoustic compositional techniques, the work unfolds as a four-part journey through neighborhoods, dance floors, and imagined sonic landscapes. The piece reimagines immersive audio as a communal and embodied experience, connecting contemporary spatial-audio and acousmatic practices with the participatory spirit of sonidero culture and its traditions of collective listening, dancing, and social exchange.

If not by car, you can easily reach Ottensheim via bus, train or a 30-minutes bike ride from Linz.

Getting home after 10pm by public transport is a bit more difficult. That’s why we will offer at least two shuttle rides from Ottensheim to Linz later in the night and on both festival evenings. More info will follow soon.
Another way is to share a taxi with other festival guests.

Staying in Ottensheim can be even more difficult, if you are not an outdoor person/ camping lover. We are sorry, that we can’t really give recommendations, since there are quite few options. But maybe you are lucky – so try your best here:
